  1. Give your OS/2 Warp a sharper appearance in all full-screen text modes.
  2.  
  3. OS2THIN.DCP replaces the standard full-screen text mode fonts with
  4. better looking characters.  Any application (OS/2 or DOS) running
  5. in a full-screen session will appear in the new, sharper font.
  6.  
  7.     For all full-screen sessions (OS/2 or DOS) running under
  8.     OS/2 Warp 3.0, or OS/2 2.1x - the only restriction is that
  9.     you must use either code page 437 (default U.S.), or code
  10.     page 850 (standard international) to use these new fonts.

  18. Installation -
  19.  
  20. 1) Copy the OS2THIN.DCP file to your OS/2 directory
  21.     (d:\OS2, where "d:" is the drive where OS/2 is installed).
  22.  
  23. 2) Use the system editor to change the line in your OS/2 CONFIG.SYS
  24.  
  25.         from -> DEVINFO=SCR,VGA,d:\OS2\VIOTBL.DCP
  26.         to ->   DEVINFO=SCR,VGA,d:\OS2\OS2THIN.DCP
  27.  
  28.     NOTE: use the correct drive & path for *your* OS/2 installation.
  29.  
  30. 3) Make sure that the CODEPAGE line in your OS/2 CONFIG.SYS reads
  31.  
  32.                 CODEPAGE=437,850    (for most U.S. users)
  33.         (or)    CODEPAGE=850,437    (for most international users)
  34.  
  35. 4) Shutdown OS/2 and then reboot your system. After OS/2 loads,
  36.     start a full screen (DOS or OS/2) session, then use the TYPE
  37.     command to display the CHARS.TXT file. This will show all the
  38.     ASCII characters in the new active font.
  39.  
  40.     NOTE:  a few control characters are omitted from CHARS.TXT
  41.     (tab, return, Ctrl-Z, etc.); however, OS2THIN.DCP redefines
  42.     *all* 256 characters.
  43.  
  44. 5) You can use the CHCP command to switch the session to the
  45.     alternate code page defined in the CONFIG.SYS - type
  46.     CHCP 437  (or CHCP 850), and then redisplay the CHARS.TXT
  47.     file to see the alternate code page definitions.
  48.  
  49. 6) If you wish, you can now switch between the various screen
  50.     modes to view the three different character sizes. Use the
  51.     MODE command for OS/2 or DOS - generally, "MODE Cols,Rows"
  52.  
  53.         MODE 80,25      (8x16 character cells)
  54.         MODE 80,28      (8x14 character cells)
  55.         MODE 80,50      (8x8  character cells)
  56.  
  57.     Cols may be set to 40, 80 (default), or (for OS/2 sessions only) 132.
  58.     Rows may be set to 25 (default), 28 (!), 43, or 50. Thus:
  59.  
  60.     for DOS & OS/2 sessions: 80x25, 80x28, 80x43, 80x50,
  61.                              40x25, 40x28, 40x43, 40x50
  62.  
  63.     for OS/2 sessions only: 132x25, 132x28, 132x43, 132x50
  64.  
  65.     NOTE:  the 28 column modes *are* supported, but are
  66.            *not* mentioned in the OS/2 documentation!
  67.  
  68.     The fonts in OS2THIN.DCP will show up in all the modes listed above.

  71. Some notes about OS2THIN.DCP -
  72.  
  73. 1) These fonts are for full-screen text mode only. This
  74.     includes emulated screen support in DOS sessions - I have
  75.     tested it with WordPerfect, Norton Utilities, (etc.); but
  76.     it should work for *any* DOS or OS/2 text mode application.
  77.  
  78. 2) The standard US code page (437) and the most common international
  79.     code page (850) are the only ones redefined in OS2THIN.DCP.
  80.     Other code pages may be added if interest warrants. If you
  81.     specify a codepage other than 437 or 850 you will get the
  82.     default (OS/2) full-screen font for that codepage.
  83.  
  84. 3) If you want to change the text font in a *windowed* OS/2 or DOS
  85.     session, there is a FONT SIZE option available from the session
  86.     menu. Click on the upper left corner of the windowed session,
  87.     then click on FONT SIZE. There are a number of fonts available
  88.     - try them until you find one that you like. NOTE:  these are
  89.     the standard VIO fonts provided by OS/2. OS2THIN.DCP does *not*
  90.     change these fonts.

  120. the standard VIOTBL.DCP file in OS/2 Warp.  The author retains
  121. copyright to the new, modified fonts, but you are free to use
  122. them for your own personal use.  However, you may not include
  123. these fonts in any commercial product (or shareware) without
  124. first contacting the author and arranging for licensing.
